Charles H. Allen, Jr. papers, 1861-1883.

The papers of this Salem, Mass., ship captain do not reflect his personal life, but relate to the ships Formosa, Mindoro, Panay, and Sooloo II. Silsbee, Pickman, and Allen, a descendant of the firm Stone, Silsbee, and Pickman, owned all four ships; Allen captained three. The ship's papers include crew accounts, insurance policies, slop chest accounts and other material, plus cargo accounts and costs for some other Silsbee and Pickman vessels.
